According to the Search Institute Developmental Relationship, the ways in which power is shared is at the foundation of every relationship. The sharing of power is critical for the presence of a developmental relationship, that is a purposeful relationship which helps youth discover who they are, cultivate the abilities they need to shape their own lives, and learn how to engage with and contribute to the world around them. Sharing power involves four key actions: respect, inclusion, collaboration and leadership.
This article provides adults with 10 practical ways of putting these four key components into action.
